Top Gun Rules (Click to reveal)
Gold Coast Sport Fishing Club – Tournament Rules
Briefing
At the pre-event briefing, boats will be allocated a starting position by random draw of numbered key tags.
The start
Anglers are to position themselves according to their key-tag number in preparation for the tournament start. An official will announce the beginning of the tournament by calling out the starting numbers. Once your number is called, raise your arm to notify your position and idle past the start location until you reach the take-off zone.
Fishing Rules
- Anglers may fish any line class with spin, baitcast, spincast or flyfishing tackle.
- Trolling, artificial lure and fly CASTING only. No dead baits or live baits allowed. No Burley.
- Any speed restrictions, non-boating or non- fishing areas must be adhered to; failure to do this
will result in either disqualification from the tournament.
- Only flathead photographed on a brag mat with the event “token” are eligible for tournament points.
- All fish are to be released alive.
- Anglers may only use one rod at a time while fishing. This includes such cases as when a lure is snagged but still attached to the rod, anglers can not pick up another rod and begin casting – this would constitute using two rods.
- Any complaints regarding a breech of the rules must be addressed to the on-site Games Master immediately upon return to the VMR base and prior to the presentation of prizes. For complaints regarding boundary breaches, please provide photographic evidence
Code of Conduct
- Boats should remain a cast apart (30metres) while fishing.
- Anglers are not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while competing.
- It is expected that Anglers shall, at all times, conduct themselves in a positive manner. Unacceptable behaviour that will reflect unfavourably on the GCSFC, its members, representatives and sponsors will subject the angler’s catch to penalty or disqualification.
Weigh-in procedure and Points Scoring
All fish are to be photographed on a brag mat clearly showing the length of the fish. Fish are measured to the tip and rounded up in length, i.e a fish measuring 39.5cm will round up to 40cm. The event token must also be included in the photograph.
All fish measurements are recorded on the individual angler score sheet. Please ensure all score sheets and SD cards are provided when submitting your team results.
- Anglers will finish a session by placing the key back on the appropriate peg before the session
finishes. The tag must be placed by a competitor from the boat.
- Tags not returned by the allotted weigh–in time will be penalised at the rate of 5 points per team per minute or part thereof. If a boat returns later than 15 minutes after weigh-in time the team will be disqualified. It is the angler’s responsibility to allow enough time to ensure the key tag is placed before the allotted time. There will be NO exceptions to this regardless of circumstance.
- Each team record all captures on their respective angler capture record sheet (one provided per angler). The team with the best combined points total for their best 5 flathead will be the winner.
- Ties will see the allocated prize money from the placings split equally.
Boundaries
The fishing boundaries are from the overhead powerlines on Russell Island to the North and to the Pacific Highway bridge at Nerang to the south and all waterway between, except for gazetted closed areas. All green zones are off limits. Anyone fishing east of Swan Bay in a boat less than 4.8m, all passengers must wear life jackets.
